As the lightest wheelchair cushion in its class, the JAY®
Lite wheelchair cushion is the perfect complement to your ultra lightweight wheelchair.
The cushion is constructed with 3DX™ Microclimatic spacer fabric,
Airflow base and the OptiWell™ pelvic loading area. These features
provide microclimatic heat and moisture dissipation, superior pressure
distribution, and optimal stability in an extremely lightweight
cushion. It's the ideal cushion for users on the go!
The final “client
specific” cushion in the Jay portfolio is the Jay
Lite. This cushion has
been designed to meet the needs of the active user as determined by end users
themselves, while delivering the clinical benefits recommended by clinicians.
These include – lightweight, stability for activity, skin protection,
breathability and comfort.
The
Jay
Lite is one of the
lightest cushions available and is offered in a standard or a positioning
version, the standard weighing 0.77kg (1.71 lb) and the positioning version
weighing 0.8kg (1.74 lb) in a 40cm x 40cm size. The cushion consists of a
layered closed cell foam base with an anthropometrically designed pelvic loading
area (PLA) i.e. well with ischial cut outs. The firmness layering of the base
provides both stability for activity and also comfort – the firm grey Oletex
foam providing positioning and support, the soft black EVA foam providing
comfort.
Jay
Lite - a foam cushion that is still considered appropriate for the client with
moderate skin risk – why and how?
Pressure
redistribution on the Jay
Lite is achieved via
anthropometrically-designed PLA that reduces loading on the ischial tuberosities
by redirecting the load to the trochanters and femurs (the usual Jay
philosophy). The ischial cut-outs and the scooped reticulated foam well insert
minimize compressive and reactive forces when the well is loaded. Immersion and
envelopment of the pelvis as well as redirection of load is thus
achieved.
A combination of a 3D
spacer fabric, microclimatic cover and an airflow base (with vertical holes
drilled through the base) provide the breathability desired – protecting the
user against excessive moisture, heat or humidity build-up. The reticulated foam
well insert also allows moisture to pass through.
In summary, the
Jay
Lite is a solution for the
active wheelchair user with mild to moderate skin integrity risk and a
symmetrical/mildy asymmetrical pelvis. The client must be able to perform an
independent weight shift. It is not appropriate in the presence of deformity as
the IT’s must align with the ischial cut outs.

Extremely Lightweight
Throughout the design process, every component of the JAY Lite cushion
was analyzed and developed to create the lowest possible weight.
Weighing a mere 1.75 pounds, the JAY Lite is the perfect complement to
the numerous ultra lightweight aluminum and titanium chairs available
in today's market. |

Microclimatic Heat and Moisture Dissipation
The 3DX™ Microclimatic Spacer Fabric and Airflow Base protect the skin
against heat and moisture build-up. The combination provides
ventilation and airflow beneath the user. |

Superior Pressure Distribution
Based on our anthropometric research, JAY Lite's OptiWell™ is optimally
shaped and sized to optimally distribute pressure under the pelvis. In
addition, the ischial cutouts and scooped reticulated foam insert
minimize compression and reaction forces when the cushion is loaded. |

Quickie Bundling
The JAY Lite can be ordered and shipped complete with a variety of
Quickie chairs including the new Quickie 2 Lite, LXI, IRIS and many
more. This helps you save time and money!
 |
The
JAY Lite is available in a positioning version that includes two adductor's and one abductor that are adhered to the base using a
pressure sensitive adhesive. Positioning components help the user
maintain appropriate postural stability. |
 |
 |
The patented cover conforms to the cushion without tension to prevent compromising the JAY Lite's pressure relieving properties. |
 |
 |
The
Oletex and EVA foam base was designed front to back to accommodate user
needs. The front features a bevelled edge that accommodates contracted
leg angles and prevents rubbing. The back was designed with back cane
notches, locking the cushion in place, and a sacral notch to protect
the coccyx bone. |
